As a Victorian family prepare their toy theatre for their annual Christmas performance, their young daughter Emily is entranced by the story, and the film unfolds from the perspective of Emily's inventive imagination. Dinky cardboard dioramas are transformed into magnificent sets to rival The Globe, and each sequence veiled in a childlike wonder and poetry, complemented by a formidable cast, including Carey Mulligan, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, and Daniel Kaluuya.
