Yolanda, a fair and mild-mannered middle aged nun lives in a rundown and neglected convent bears sees her calling as providing spiritual advice to her convent and community. Her faith is left shaken however when she bears witness to the unusual and distressing death of a construction worker. Thrust into a the dark underbelly of criminal conspiracy and terrified by the far reaching implications the death has caused, Yolanda is forced her to reckon with the religious institution she has devoted her life to.
Gentle yet ferocious, First Light is a slow burn crime drama from Filipino- Australian director James J Robinson, who masterfully captures the wild verdant beauty of Filipino island of Luzon in his debut feature.
